I think most everyone slept well last night…especially since it was not on an airport floor! The night sounds did not disapoint and breakfast was delicious – first taste of local mango…the best. It wasn’t long before we were loaded up and on the road to Les Cayes. Garry made the ride very comfortable and in just over 4 hours we were at the pier loading supplies and ourselves on the boat for the passage to Ile a Vache. We were greeted by the local children and accompanied up the hill to our home for the week. I’m pretty sure Maya and Kelly have new suitors.
It wasn’t long before the children had the first soccer ball and the games began. After bed nets were hung and some initial sorting of supplies, the dinner bell was rung and we were treated to one of our favorites, Creole chicken with rice and beans and creole sauce. It is great to be back with our friends on this island!
The Team went for a nice evening walk after dinner, most certainly accompanied by all the children who weren’t already playing soccer. They discovered a new night spot just down the road…I’m sure we will patronize the local business before our departure. Upon their return we did a quick search of our inventory to find the mice had had a field day with much of our childrens vitamins and some of the antibiotics left behind in March. To our great pleasure though, we discovered we had plenty other pre-bagged meds to manage our first clinic here in the morning. So, we quickly cleaned the mess, bagged vitamins and Tums, and called it a night.
But not before a trip to the roof for cooling off with friends.
Tomorrow we will run clinic right here at the church. We are told the kids are not in school this week, so we may be seeing lots of children…my kind of clinic!!
That’s all for tonight! I’m sure there will be more to tell tomorrow.
Love to All,
The Team
What? Treating children? A most welcome occurrence! Stay safe and blessings to the team and mission.
